Cubaris Isopods for Sale UK

Cubaris are the jewels of the isopod hobby: round, chunky, often brightly coloured, and full of character. Every Cubaris we sell is captive-bred in our own colonies in Truro, Cornwall.

Most Cubaris come from the humid forests and limestone caves of Thailand and South-East Asia. They like warmth (around 22–26 °C), a damp end to their tub, good airflow, and plenty of leaf litter and rotting wood. They breed more slowly than beginner species, so colonies build steadily rather than exploding, which is why the rarer morphs stay sought-after.

Questions

Are Cubaris good for beginners?

Some are. Mandarin (Cubaris murina) is hardy and fast-breeding, and our Cubaris Starter Trio is chosen for first-time keepers. Morphs like Rubber Ducky and White Shark are better once you've kept a hardy species first.

How many Cubaris should I start with?

We recommend at least 5, and ideally 10. Sexes can't be guaranteed in small groups, and a larger starter group gives you the best chance of a breeding colony.

Do Cubaris need heating?

In most UK homes, yes in winter. Aim for 22–26 °C. A heat mat on the side of a shelf, controlled by a thermostat, works well. Never put tubs on a radiator.
